SCMeeting2006Sep29
From LUGOP
Things are getting better. There was an overall attendance of three people this time around. Unlike last time when we went an hour over schedule, this meeting actually ended 5 minutes early because we went through our agendia pretty quickly; it ended up being about 15 minutes of the meeting. The following is a relative list of topics discussed and stuff that occurred.
- The room was unlocked this time but the computer was still locked up despite that I requested for physical access. Making a note to put any portable apps and media on the LUGOP server before the next meeting.
- Jaime talked about his new leet hardware and his hesitation of trying the LUGOP CD
- We talked about our classes and other random stuff related to school
- The Revolution OS screening was discussed and people mentioned their option of Revolution OS. Micah has volunteered to help with the event.
- We talked a little bit about what can possibly be done to get more students involved in the LUG. We are open to any suggestions.
- The possible Installfest/LAN party was brought up and we discussed what hardware would be necessary to run such an event. The major pieces of hardware that will be necessary would be some type of computer with a Wifi card that can act as an DHCP server and an ethernet switch with plenty of ports. The event will be run like the old CGA events.
- Micah Sergey took on the position of Student Chapter Vice President
- It has been decided that the Student Chapter meetings will be posted on the front page from now on. The section should be written differently than the current LUGOP meeting section to not cause any confusion for new people.
One thing that I didn't get to bring up was that I hope to plan some sort of tournament at the Installfest/LAN party. Even though at this point we will welcome people with Windows PCs to participate at the LAN party, only people running some Linux distribution will be eligible for the tournament. I will welcome any suggestion for the game that should be played for the tournament. Cash prizes will be offered to the top three players. If things go as planned, the Installfest/LAN party will happen but it might not happen until early December or until the start of the Spring 2007 semester.
I am hoping things will be slightly better next meeting since the flyers for the next meeting are already up and I keep getting questions from people about Linux and the LUG. If anyone has any suggestions of what we should do, please feel free to post something on the mailing list or on the discussion page for this entry.
